For burger recs in Phoenix, we're turning to Paul McCabe, Executive Chef at The Royal Palms Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, and Sedona native. McCabe is a fine dining veteran, having previously served as Executive Chef of L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa for eight years.
There's a burger on the menu at on-site restaurant T. Cook's, and it's a doozy of house-made this and that. The patty (ground in-house) is topped with house-made American cheese, house-made bread and butter pickles, slow-roasted pork belly, a sunny side up duck egg, and aioli, on a Plugrá brioche bun with a side of hash browns.
When he's not eating a burger from his own restaurant's kitchen, McCabe hits up a smattering old standbys and newcomers. Scroll down to see his top burger picks in Phoenix.
Paul McCabe's Top 5 Burgers in Phoenix
1. Stax Burger Bistro in Scottsdale: Although they are known for their sliders, I am always intrigued by their offerings of exotic burgers, like kangaroo, buffalo, etcetera.

2. The Grind: I like their Nogales burger with chorizo, tamale, roasted poblano, and white cheddar. The flavors are great and the burgers are cooked in their coal-fired ovens.

3. Chicago Hamburger Company: This spot has been here on Indian School Road for a long time. "Bob's Big Burger" has made it onto my favorites list based on the size and consistency.

4. The Stand Burgers and Tacos: Although they are fairly new, they are putting out a great product. I have visited a few times since they have opened and they have never failed to come through with consistency and decent sized burgers. Don't forget about the horchata.
