More than half of the top 75 burger chains in terms of sales are fast-casual "better-burger" chains, according to a new report from market research firm Technomic Inc., reports Nation's Restaurant News. Their sales are nowhere near that of the big chains—fast-casual brands only make up 2.6 percent of all burger chain sales—but their growth rates are high. The top growing fast-casual chains in terms of percentage of unit count expansion are Shake Shack, Smashburger, Mooyah Burgers & Fries, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, and The Habit Burger Grill.
