I just came across this infographic from fellow burger blog Burgatory that shows the percentage of burgers at Checkers that feature bacon. This made me wonder two things: What are the bacon-topped burger percentages of other chains, and how good are burgers from Checkers? Even though I doubt many people care about the first question, I poked around a bunch of menus to find out, and I'll be damned if I let such precious research go to waste. (I'll get to the second question in a bit.)
I picked some big burger chains, counted the number of burgers on their official websites' menus (leaving out kids' meals, limited specials, and burgers that didn't come on buns), and noted the ones topped with bacon. From highest to lowest percentage:
Five Guys | 50% bacon out of 8 burgers Bacon Burger Bacon Cheeseburger Little Bacon Burger Little Bacon Cheeseburger
Wendys | 47% bacon out of 17 burgers Bacon Deluxe Single Bacon Deluxe Double Bacon Deluxe Triple Baconator Single Baconator Double Baconator Triple Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger Double Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger
Hardee's | 38% bacon out of 16 burgers 1/3 Lb. Texas Toast Bacon Cheese Thickburger 1/4 Lb. Texas Toast Bacon Cheese Thickburger Six Dollar Texas Toast Bacon Cheese Thickburger 1/3 Lb. Bacon Cheese Thickburger 1/3 Lb. Frisco Thickburger 2/3 Lb. Monster Thickburger
Sonic | 33% bacon out of 6 burgers Sonic Bacon Cheeseburger Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster Sandwich
Checkers | 31% bacon out of 13 burgers Bacon Cheese Champ Baconzilla Bacon Double Checkerburger with Cheese Bacon Cheese Double Cheese
Carl's Jr | 31% bacon out of 13 burgers Western Bacon Cheeseburger Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger Guacamole Bacon Six Dollar Burger Western Bacon Six Dollar Burger
Jack in the Box | 21% bacon out of 14 burgers Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger Sourdough Jack Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger
Burger King | 20% bacon out of 15 burgers Double Stacker Triple Stacker Quad Stacker
McDonald's | 15% bacon out of 13 burgers Angus Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus Bacon and Cheese
And to end this list off with two of my faves, In-N-Out and Shake Shack (yeah, I know it's not a big chain) don't offer bacon on their burgers (although Shake Shack has offered a peanut butter and bacon burger as a special).
Wendy's has the most bacon-topped burgers on their menu (eight), while McDonald's and Sonic have the least (two).
This information isn't very useful, but there you go. I guess this would be more useful if we had a burger chain bacon taste test to go along with this. (...I don't think I'm ready for that.)
Back to my second question, "How good are burgers from Checkers?" Followers of @ahamburgertoday on Twitter agreed that the burgers are bad ("It's not worth it"; "if you're constipated then definitely yes"; "just a mediocre fast-food burger"), but the fries are okay.
