Dear AHT: Bacon Cheeseburgers at FOB Hammer in Iraq
A few weeks back, we noticed that a chaplain at U.S. Forward Operating Base Hammer in Iraq had mentioned Serious Eats' photo-sharing site, Photograzing, and also A Hamburger Today. We chatted a bit in the comments of his blog post, and he volunteered to send some photos of the burgers at the base. Here they are, with some words from Chaplain Andrews. —Adam

Now, of course, it has a million calories and is cooked on a wide short-order grill, but it is completely healthy for all of the stress that any American soldier needs cured. This hamburger is served on a plastic picnic plate and eaten with a side order of fresh french fries (or freedom fries, depending on your political persuasion) and an Iraqi Coke Light (Diet Coke). The cooks at the DFAC have these hamburgers ready for lunch and dinner every single day. If nothing else looks good at the DFAC, the hamburgers are always the wise choice. —Chaplain Andrews

Thanks for the photos, Chaplain Andrews! I'd imagine that even though it's got a million calories, you'd tend to work those off throughout the day and in that heat. Lord knows you guys and gals deserve a good burger. Thanks again, and keep safe.
Chars, Adam
