While the above picture looks like a cute plush burger toy which would be worth owning if it was just that, it actually doubles as a CD/DVD Holder.

'Juno' Burger Phone

If you've seen Juno, then you know this phone. I haven't seen the movie, but you all keep sending me links to this phone that I figured I'd blog it.

I guess this is the phone she talks to her OB-GYN on. Who knows.

It's $16 from Uxcell.com.

Burger Link Roundup: Texas, L.A., Silicon Valley

  • One of my favorite burger bloggers, the Texas Burger Guy, returns from a monthslong absence on his blog with a review of Arnold Burger in Amarillo, Texas. Even if you don't live in the Lone Star State, you've gotta love TBG's site, which has great terminology for describing burgers—the "herd killer" factor, for instance, "measures the sheer size and weight of a burger," while the "ooze factor" measures a sandwich's juiciness. Arnold Burger: 1611 South Washington Street, Amarillo TX 79102; 806-372-1741
  • LAist checks out 25 Degrees at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It's been called the best burger in L.A. by some, which is saying a lot, since L.A. is a city known for its contributions to the nation's burger heritage. 25 Degrees: 7000 Hollywood Boulevard 90028; 323-785-7244
  • The Silicon Valley Burger Guide escaped my notice when it was posted back in 2006, but the people behind the site Food Notebook have been slowly adding noted burgers to their list. The latest is the Alpine Inn in Portola Valley, which rates a "decent."
  • What goes best with a burger? An ice-cold cola? A beer? Who cares what your choice is when you can place it on this stackable coaster set that forms a burger when not in use. $20.27 from drinkstuff.com
  • In the Land Down Under, McDonald's holds the NameIt Burger contest: Give the chain's latest burger its name and the lucky Aussie will win some stuff and get your mug in a commercial. The new burger's components are "homestyle beef" (whatever that is), tatsoi salad mix, steak and onion sauce, tomato, cheese, and grilled onions.
  • A newspaper in Japan notes a strange footnote in Japanese burger history from the 1970s and '80s—the Worm Burger: "Instead of a beef patty, the Worm Burger used ground worms, cut the onions a little, added wheat flour, a runny egg and blended in milk to make it go down easier.... Despite the best intentions, the Worm Burger ended up as a major flop. Marketers had been targeting women and young people, but appear to have struggled to overcome worms' image as a bizarre food." Hmm, you don't say?

MyHeinz.com: Customized Ketchup Bottles

Today (November 3) is the last day to order customized ketchup bottles from MyHeinz.com and still get them by Christmas.

The burger lovers on your list don't take theirs with ketchup? Hey, they'll still need the five-seven for fries.

20061017wallet.jpg"Hamburger" Matty just found this great burger wallet. "As AHT staffers, we should be required to use these," he said.

Agreed. Though I don't know how fast I'll be parting with, oh, the equivalent of about 6 value meals for a novelty wallet.

A Birthday Burger Basket

The Birthday Basket

My sister certainly knows me well. When my birthday came up a couple months ago, she laid this basket on me and I was like woh. If you can't see what everything is, here's a breakdown:

The piece of art is a woodblock print my sister created herself. It's awesome and is already up in my kitchen. Absolutely awesome.

Beef and Burger RubThis herbed beef and burger rub from Tulocay's Made in Napa Valley is a nice addition to a burger. It'd be nice if we could all have access to the best quality meat, but usually we all end up with ground chuck from the grocery store. This rub gives it a little kick without forcing you to turn to bread crumbs or other additives. Avoid those, use something like this.

Burger CandiesI'm not sure who makes these (as I ate them already, whoops), but burger candy is just fun. If I find one of these laying around the house I'll get a little more info on these for ya'lls.

Fast Food BasketsThese Tablecraft baskets are gold. Aside from my woodblock print, this was my favorite part of the gift. I just need to get some good parchment paper I can use to fold around my burgers, then throw them in the baskets with some fries. Can't wait.

Holiday Gift Guide: Burger of the Month Club

March: “St. Patrick’s Madness” Gaelic burger with Irish bacon, sautéed onions and cheddar cheese. Served with a pint of Guinness.
July: “Red, White and Blue Burger” featuring tomato, onion and blue cheese. Paired with a pint of Liberty Ale.

The March burger is unavailable on Saint Patrick's Day, however, d'oh!
