Latest from McDonald's in China: Mashed Potato Burger

Looks like the newest burger for the "manly man" (as described in this commercial's title, "Beef 2012 Manly Man Campaign") at McDonald's in China features two beef patties, bacon, and...a hefty glob of mashed potatoes? The commercial starts by calling their beef patty "good," then the bacon "better," and finally, the mashed potato "best." Knowing how tasty McDonald's beef patties are, this may very well be the correct order of ingredient deliciousness.

Non-Beef Burgers on AHT: Way or No Way?

A Hamburger Today is based on a foundation of beef. But we know other burgers exist—burgers made of vegetables, mushrooms, turkey, fish, and other non-bovine ingredients. While they may not be "burgers" as much as "a patty of stuff on a bun with toppings," whether you like it or not, non-beef applications of the term "burger" are here to stay. We've occasionally covered veggie burgers (and other types) on AHT, but should we expand our burger horizons more regularly? Do you want more alternative burger coverage? Poll: Do You Like 'Fusion Burgers'?

Call them "fusion burgers" or "ethnicized burgers" or what have you. You know what they are. Like the pizzaburger I just wrote about or like a "Swiss burger," a "Texas burger," or even a "Mexican burger," they're hamburgers whose toppings are ingredients you'd see in another cuisine or regional dish or in someone's idea of another cuisine. My point being ... Do you like these kinds of burgers? »
