Umami Burger's $100 Truffle and Foie Gras-topped Burger

It's white truffle season, which means it's time to shave those truffles on top of burgers to increase the price by a bagillion percent. Umami Burger is now offering the $100 MNO (Money is No Object) Burger featuring a grass-fed wagyu patty topped with Grade-A Hudson Valley foie gras, onion marmalade, reduced 1977 Croft Vintage Port, and about a quarter-inch of freshly shaved Italian white truffles. The burger is only available for private parties reserved in advance—25-person minimum if you're eating at the restaurant, 50-person minimum if you want them to bring the burgers to you.

Umami Burger Opening in NYC in Late 2012, Expanding with a Fast Food Concept

Popular Los Angeles-based burger mini chain Umami Burger (AHT review) is coming to New York City at the end of 2012, reports Grub Street. Hospitality group SBE has joined with Umami Restaurant Group founder/chief executive Adam Fleischman for the national expansion, which will include a fast food burger concept called U-ko. Nation's Restaurant News has more details about the upcoming restaurants, including a combination of 25 new Umami Burgers and U-ko locations by the end of 2013, the first UMAMIcatessen (Umami Burger, kosher deli, and charcuterie bar) in Los Angeles in November, and a pizza concept called 800°.

GQ's Burger of the Year: Umami Burger in Los Angeles

In the December issue of GQ, food writer Alan Richman gives Umami Burger in Los Angeles the title of Burger of the Year. Richman admits he doesn't care much for the L.A. burger culture, but says this about Umami Burger's founder Adam Fleischman: "His face belongs on the Mount Rushmore of the burger world."
