Friendly's Testing Co-branded Shops with Burger King

After filing for bankruptcy protection last fall and emerging from Chapter 11 this month, ice cream-centric restaurant chain Friendly's is looking to increase revenue and brand awareness by joining up with Burger King, reports The Boston Globe. Last month in Jackson, New Jersey, Friendly's opened its first counter called "Friendly's Scoops" in a Burger King franchise where ice cream revenues currently account for 18 percent of total sales.

Clifton, NJ: Breakfast of Champions at Tick Tock Diner

Bordentown, New Jersey: Mastoris Diner Serves Up Massive Burgers

Mastoris is massive in every way. The restaurant is so large that it has several themed rooms, each of which would make for a large restaurant by itself. You can choose between the "Diner" room, which lives up to its name by looking like a typical Jersey diner, or the "Rockwell Room" in the back, which is a tribute to Norman Rockwell. I chose to dine in the "Mastoris Lounge"—with its wood paneling and oil paintings, I hoped a bit of the steakhouse vibe would rub off on the burgers.

A Visit to Burger Maker's Production Facility in Carlstadt, New Jersey

David Schweid founded Burger Maker in 1978, setting up shop with a grinder and a patty making machine in Manhattan's meatpacking district. Today they distribute hamburger patties to over 20 states and is a supplier for Five Guys and Fatburger. Here's a look at their production facility in New Jersey.

White Castle Cheeseburgers at Doc's Water Ice in Vineland, NJ

We recently received an email from Ron Crowell, better known on AHT as Big Woolly Mammoth, about coming across a new purveyor of White Castle burgers on his way to work in southern New Jersey. What's so special about it? It's not a freestanding White Castle, but a shop that sells water ice and hot dogs. ...Hm. He checked out the goods to report back to the AHT community.
