Brooklyn: Great Burgers Near the River's Edge at That Burger Tent

That Burger Tent might be something you either roll your eyes at or go gaga for, depending on your tolerance for trends. Let's count 'em: 1) burgers 2) Pat La Frieda burgers 3) pop-up food vendor 4) located at a hipster flea market. But even the most cynical burger-eater out there would have to give it up for burgermeister Dan Petersen's little burger operation, located just outside Williamsburg's Artists & Fleas on North 7th Street, near East River State Park. These burgers are all that.

Tonight's Special Burger at Rub BBQ: The Blackened Burger

We don't usually post about Rub BBQ's special burger every week (although we do like them), but since Kenji and I just ate it earlier today and I have burger porn to share with you, here you go! Tonight's special burger available until 9 p.m. is the Blackened Burger ($9.25) featuring a charred Cajun-spiced patty topped with cheddar cheese and chili pepper relish (don't worry; it gives it a little kick, but it's not too spicy).

Harlem: Chez Lucienne's Cheeseburger, the Best in the Neighborhood

Up until Red Rooster showed up a little while ago, Chez Lucienne was the designated elegant eats spot in my hood, and their burger is the best burger in lower Harlem/Morningside Heights I've found to date.

NYC: Surprisingly Good Asian-Inflected Burgers at Social Eatz

Asian fusion burgers are generally a bad idea—the notion gets in the way of the execution, and what you end up with is something that's more of concept than a real burger (the same could be said for Social Eatz as a whole). But Sosa surprised us with the intelligently conceived, and more importantly, well-executed burgers on the menu here.

Chain Reaction: Applebee's Cowboy Burger

Any chain as aggressively all-American as Applebee's is going to have a few burgers on its menu; and sure enough, there's a whole page of the laminated photo menu devoted to them. The Cowboy Burger ($9.99) topped with cheddar, bacon, and crispy onion strings may not make me want to run back to Applebee's, but it's better than anything else I've had on the menu.

Astoria, NYC: A Pretty Sweet Burger at Sweet Afton

The patty takes on a nice sear, giving you some crunchy bits and some carnal, cavemanish UGH-FIRE-GOOOOOD flavor. Oh, and it's nicely seasoned. They're not afraid of salt here.

Making Japan's Meat Monster Whopper at Our Local Burger King

Burger King Japan's new Meat Monster Whopper topped with two slices of cheese, three strips of bacon, an extra 3.3-ounce beef patty, and a Tendergrill Chicken patty has been gaining lots of attention this month for its excessive meatiness, but you can order a similar burger stateside if you just ask for the extra toppings on a regular Whopper—your cashier will just be more confused than one in Japan.

NYC: Another Fancy-pants Burger Enters the Wars at Gotham Bar and Grill

Though there hasn't been a burger on the Gotham Bar and Grill menu since there was a margarita machine at the restaurant's elegant bar, chef and owner Alfred Portale knew the time had come: Portale wasn't using the trimmings from the 28 day dry-aged steak on his dinner menu, and he knew that had to stop. "The end piece, the aged fat, about four inches of the strip loin—all amazing pieces—were going to waste," says Portale. "I realized these could be elements of the most incredible burger."

NYC: Looks Are Deceiving at Community Food and Juice

Growing up in the West Harlem/Morningside Heights neighborhood, I really wanted to love Community Food & Juice when it first opened. It's got a great vibe, a tasty looking menu (pork belly, beets, market salads, lentils, all that good stuff), and a nice location to boot. The only problem: Aside from an excellent matzoh ball soup ($8), the food isn't worth the price. All of it looks pretty, but beauty doesn't run deep.
