Milwaukee: Miller Time Pub Is Better Than the Average Hotel Bar

Hotel restaurants don't usually get much attention, and in fact are mostly dismissed as being uninteresting and low quality. There are a few places that break out of the stereotype, and I found one of them: Miller Time Pub, located in the Hilton Milwaukee downtown.

Milwaukee: Don't Be Fooled by Appearences at INdustri Cafe; These Messy Burgers are Great

I was a little wary of INdustri Cafe at first—it's a little hipster, a little yuppie, and a little pretentious. Not exactly my style. But I was so pleasantly surprised by the food that I wouldn't hesitate to go back and try some of the other menu options. That is, if I could bring myself to not order a burger.

Milwaukee: Smoked Brisket Burgers at Matty's in New Berlin

Why is it that so many potentially great burgers succumb to bad preparation? Either the majority of restaurant goers prefer well-done burgers, or very few cooks actually know how to cook a burger to any temperature but "dry." It's especially disappointing when the components of the burger have so much potential, as in the case of Matty's in New Berlin.

Milwaukee: Butter Burgers at '50s-style Wayne's Drive-In in Cedarburg

If you've lived in Milwaukee or its northern suburbs for any amount of time, you probably know the jingle for Wayne's Drive-in in Cedarburg. I haven't been able to get it out of my head in the last week because it's so catchy—a nice way to put it. So I decided it's finally time to make the trip up there and see if the lyrics "Satisfies your appetite's every wish" are true.

Milwaukee: Avoid the Giant Burger Challenge at Red Rock Saloon

Red Rock Saloon's "Unforgiven Challenge" gives customers a reason to attempt to eat their Farm burger made of a half-pound patty topped with cheese, bacon, and deep fried chicken breast, topped with another half-pound patty topped with cheese, bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, and onion strings, along with sides of fries and six T.C.B. ghost pepper wings in 23 minutes. Lucky(?) for us, you can buy the challenge burger sans challenge.

Milwaukee: Zim's New Location Focuses on Burgers, But It Has Some Work to Do

Zim's Bar and Grill recently relocated and shortened their menu, with an emphasis on appetizers and burgers. The kitchen opened in August, and with experience and a focused menu on their side, I was hoping for some really good burgers. In reality, they weren't anything special.

Milwaukee: Heartbreak and Disappointment at Charcoal Grill

I was enamored by the memory of the bison burgers I used to eat at Charcoal Grill with my father when I was a kid and teen. At the time they seemed exotic, and they were delicious, as were the beef burgers. Now, all these years later, I wonder how the restaurant is still in business.

Milwaukee: Big, Boring, Blah Burgers at Harry's Bar and Grill

I've been to Harry's Bar and Grill a few times in the last decade or so, and it's always been on my short list of places to review for AHT because everything I've eaten there has been above average. It's a vibrant place with interesting menu items and specials at fairly reasonable prices. I had never had a burger there, however, and that's where things went wrong.
