Hingham, MA: Wahlburgers

A burger place run by Wahlbergs called Wahlburgers? I feared that the quasi-pun, borderline narcissist name was a bad sign, but they have the quality burgers to back up their branding.

This, folks, is the Craigie on Main burger served at Tony Maws' restaurant in Central Square, Cambridge. It's one of the finest versions of chopped-beef-on-bun you will find anywhere, and it's no accident that it is.

Nantucket: Burger With a Side of Foie Gras from Lola 41°

Lola 41°'s burger is big and juicy, but comes with a big price tag. That might have something to do with the side of foie gras dipping sauce.

Burger Joint Coming Soon from the Wahlbergs: Wahlburgers

Chef Paul Wahlberg along with his brothers, actors Mark and Donnie, are planning to open a 4,300 square feet burger joint called Walhburgers in Hingham, Massachusetts, across from Wahlberg's Italian restaurant Alma Nove, says the Boston Herald. To get the name they had to secure the rights from Rochester-based burger chain Tom Wahl's, who menu features a burger called the Wahlburger (topped with Swiss, grilled smoked ham, lettuce, and special sauce). According to their Facebook page, Wahlburgers plans on having a soft opening in the middle of September and having their grand opening in October.

Cambridge, MA: Charlie's Kitchen Is a Great Local Institution, Just Not For Burgers

Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Square is correct in calling its double cheeseburger "famous." Charlie's has been around since 1951, and scads of historically significant people have walked by in burger-eating frames of mind. I bet Obama's had one of Charlie's double cheeseburgers, and all manner of Afflecks, Kennedys, and Wahlbergs are liable to have as well, along with tons of big-mouthed magazine editors and food bloggers. This is indeed one very well known burger. It is not, however, a very well made one.

Boston: Bivalves And Burgers at Island Creek Oyster Bar

The menu at Island Creek Oyster Bar looks like a periodic table of raw oysters and shellfish. Conspicuously situated among all those fruits of the sea is a flavorful, well seasoned burger—fried oyster topping optional.

Uburger gets it right with their sandwich architecture. However, spurious claims may explain their patty problems.

Boston: Eastern Standard's Standard Burger

Gone are the days when Jamie Bissonette (currently of Toro and Coppa) used to grind butter directly into the burgers at Eastern Standard, but the Standard Burger ($12) is still pretty killer, and the restaurant space is still as nice as ever to pass the time in.
