Robb Walsh of the Houston Press praises Five Guys' burger, pointing out "the big stack of fresh crispy vegetables they pile on it" and the throughtful construction. He wasn't a fan of the fries though, which he said were overcooked.

My friend Robb Walsh, whom many of us have always suspected works for the BIA (Burger Intelligence Agency), was caught (blood) red-handed photographing the "Cowboy Burger" at JR’s Texas Bar-B-Que in Houston. The free-form half-pounder, topped with bacon, Monterey Jack, and mushrooms, all stuffed between Texas toast, is for eating—not photographing. Suspecting he was a "digital Hamburglar," the restaurant's manager confronted Walsh: “Can I ask what you’re doing?" Skeptical of his honest response, the manager then took a photo of Walsh's license plate as evidence.
Here at A Hamburger Today, we are willing to take up a collection to get him out on bail. The authorities refuse to let him out on his recognizance. Knowing Walsh as well as I do, I completely understand their reasoning. To me, it looks like a burger worth being busted for. Here's a new one on the fusion-burger front: A bulgoki burger. Robb Walsh, food writer for the Houston Press, found this thing at the a Korean-owned restaurant called Burger House on the Gulf Freeway.
The bulgoki burger cost me $4.53. “Don’t put mustard on it, that doesn’t taste right,” the cashier advised. I put a little lettuce and tomato on the bun, and a whole lot of raw onion rings in the middle. The meat tasted like the sliced rib eye used in Philly cheese steaks and the barbecue sauce was a little sweet. I’m not sure this really qualifies as a burger because of the use of sliced steak instead of ground meat. But flavor-wise, it’s right up there with the Pakistani bun kebab.
Is this pushing the line? From the picture, it appears there might not even be a bun top. Hmm ... >:|
