Friendly's Testing Co-branded Shops with Burger King

After filing for bankruptcy protection last fall and emerging from Chapter 11 this month, ice cream-centric restaurant chain Friendly's is looking to increase revenue and brand awareness by joining up with Burger King, reports The Boston Globe. Last month in Jackson, New Jersey, Friendly's opened its first counter called "Friendly's Scoops" in a Burger King franchise where ice cream revenues currently account for 18 percent of total sales.

Burger King Testing Delivery Service in Maryland and Virginia

If you live within 10 minutes of a participating Burger King, you could get your meal delivered to you for a $2 fee. There are currently 10 restaurants in Maryland and Virginia testing delivery, with six more in Virginia joining on January 23. You can order delivery on the phone or online at bkdelivers.com with an $8 to $10 minimum depending on the location. Excluded from delivery are fountain drinks, ICEE beverages, shakes, coffee, and breakfast items. [via NRN]

This commercial from McDonald's in Germany didn't make it to the TV airwaves because Burger King found it "degrading," reports Ad Age. In the commercial a young boy keeps getting his McDonald's food stolen by older boys while sitting in a skate park, until he conceals his food by putting behind a less enticing Burger King bag.

Pizza-Size Burgers Coming Soon to Burger King in Japan

Next month Burger King Japan is releasing new Pizza-Size Burgers [PDF], extra-wide burgers that are 22 cm (8.7 in) in diameter. The burgers feature four patties and standard Whopper toppings, but in two variations: Fresh Avocado, with avocado; and Cheese Nacho, with tortilla chips, cheese sauce, and jalapeño. Whopper toppings cover the whole burger, with half also topped with Fresh Avocado or Cheese Nacho. (It's like a half plain, half avocado or cheese/tortilla chip/jalapeño pizza. Or something.)

All You Can Eat Whoppers at Burger King in Japan for 2 Weeks
