Here's some good news if you've been battling a craving for cherry limeade, tater tots, or a burger delivered by a carhop on roller skates: Sonic recently announced a goal to open 1,000 new drive-ins in the next 10 years (which would represent a 30 percent increase in total locations).
Whether or not the nation's largest chain of drive-in restaurants can accomplish this lofty target remains to be seen. According to the official press release, the chain has a long way to go. So far, plans are underway to open 56 new locations over the next six years, including five locations in Rochester, New York, by 2018, eight locations in Buffalo, New York, by 2020, 14 in the greater Seattle area by 2018, 15 in Los Angeles and San Diego by 2020, and an additional 13 locations in small towns in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
