Behind the Scenes: Holsteins, One of the Best Burger Joints in Las Vegas
Ever since I sunk my teeth into the juicy classic cheeseburger at Holsteins for this roundup of tasty burgers on the Las Vegas Strip, I've been looking forward to returning for round two. That opportunity came during a quick visit centered around the judging the final round of the World Burger Championships, part of the 2013 World Food Festival.
This time, I scored a backstage pass into the Holsteins kitchen, where executive chef Anthony Meidenbauer chatted with me about the restaurant's signature (and most popular) burger: the Gold Standard. The re-examined and elevated bacon cheeseburger is their best seller, representing 25 percent of burger sales. On a typical day, Anthony says the kitchen churns out between 150 and 200 of them, served with a side shoestring or steak-cut fries at no extra charge (a rarity on the strip, where most burgers come à la carte).
On this subject, Anthony says, "Know where you get a burger and fries separately? Quick service places. At a restaurant, they're supposed to come together." Amen, brother. You've got my agreement on that, along with the majority of AHT'ers.
