Ray's Hell Burger Closed Due to Dispute with Landlord; 'Free' Burger Giveaway at Ray's to the Third
Washington D.C.-area favorites Ray's Hell Burger and neighboring Ray's Hell Burger Too closed yesterday due to a dispute between restaurateur Michael Landrum and his landlord, Colonial Village Shopping Center, reports ARLnow. The shopping center had locked Landrum and his staff out of both restaurants. Landrum hasn't given any more information about the dispute. He says he's not looking for a new space for Ray's Hell Burger, but customers are advised to visit his restaurant cross the street, Ray's to the Third, where the burger menu is also available.
Ray's to the Third will also be the site of Landrum's "free" burger giveaway to celebrate next Monday's Presidential Inauguration. Check out the full details on donrockwell.com. Here's the main info:
The Deal: Each day, 2,013 Li'l Devils (third-pound burger) with Vermont cheddar and tomato (Dijon optional) and a small side (changing throughout the day) will be given out for free.
The Catch: They request a donation of $5 (cash or check) per burger. Sunday's donations will go to the Boys and Girls Club in North East for their after school meals program; Monday's donations will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Alexandria. If anyone skips out, Landrum will make up the difference to guarantee a donation of $10,065 each day.
Caveats: Burgers will be cooked to medium. Special orders, outside of no cheese, will probably not be honored. One burger per person.
Location: Ray's To The Third, 1650 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington VA 22209 (map)
Time: Sunday, January 20, and Monday, January 21, 11:30 a.m. until the last burger is given away.
