New From McDonald's China: Black and White Burger Set

Black bunned fast food burger? Seen it. Black bunned fast food burger paired with a white bunned fast food burger? ...INNOVATION!?

Last month McDonald's China released this limited-time set of two mini black and white burgers (黑白通吃堡) for 16 RMB (about $2.50) or 28 RMB (about $4.40) with fries and soda. The white sesame seed-topped black burger features a beef patty topped with onion and black pepper sauce, while the black sesame seed-topped white burger features a chicken patty topped with some kind of sweet and spicy sauce and lettuce.

What's the meaning behind the black and white colors? Josh Ong of The Beijinger offers this explanation:

We weren't sure whether these burgers were meant to be a yin-yang sign, a tribute to Michael Jackson or just a lab experiment gone wrong. But then a colleague informed us they're a play on a Chinese phrase: heibai liangdao tongchi (黑白两道通吃), which describes people who are so well-connected with both the government (that's the white side) and organized crime ("black society," as it's called in Chinese) that they can "eat from both sides." In other words, someone who has a foot in both camps.

I'm guessing this isn't exactly the same meaning that McDonald's is pushing. If you can read Chinese, maybe you can glean more info from this article from; otherwise, Google Translate offers this semi-comprehensible translation (emphasis mine):
