Serious Eats member yuppicide ventured where few other SE'ers would and made McDonald's Miracle Steamed Rice: rice topped with fries, a Big Mac, and chicken nuggets, flavored with ketchup and Coke Zero, cooked in a rice cooker. Result: "It actually came out pretty good."

Yuppicide's full comment (with tips if you want to try this yourself) from this talk thread:

Alright, guys. I tried it. Picture link at the end of this post.

But first, @mr nick: You saying that reminds me of this TV show episode:

They mix a bunch of stuff together and one guy drinks it for $10.

So anyway, I decided to go with Wendy's since it's cheaper. I'll keep it clean here, but I really would like to say some curse words. McDonalds has an order of chicken nugget for $3.49.. Wendy's? 99 cents. Clear winner right there.

McDonald's value meal was $6.19 or $6.99 I forget.. Wendy's? $4.99.

I got The W which is like a Big Mac, medium fries, Diet Coke, and an order of Chicken Nuggets.

It actually came out pretty good. Some things of note:

- Definitely remove the bottom bun. It will be like a huge soggy ball and basically unable to eat it.

- I did not care for lettuce. I would not get that last time. I don't normally like lettuce anyway, but this was horrible.. all soggy.

- Fries were soggy as you'd have expected, but I didn't mind. I should have got more fries, which you'll see in my crappy picture.

- The burger was warm, but not overly hot. Good enough to eat.

- The nuggets were no longer crispy. They kind of reminded me of an episode from Food Network where you see chicken so tender it falls apart. I actually liked this. It had a good flavor and texture if you ask me. I should have got one more order of nuggets.

- Definitely use a good amount of ketchup. While the dish would have been alright on it's own it's much better with ketchup.

- The rice did pick up some of the flavor.. kind of tasted a big chickeny.

- I didn't know how much soda to add in. Next time I'd be a little more bold with my soda. I didn't add that much. I think next time I'd cut back the amount of water and use more soda.. maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup.

Now on to the picture:

I didn't take a picture after it was done.

PS - The whole house smelled amazing. It was like I was back in the 80's.. you know when fast food joints weren't required to purchase million dollar fans to get rid of the smells.
