Burger King Revamping Menu and Identity
Burger King, whose sales and profits have been declining for years, is getting a makeover with a revamped menu, updated restaurant design, and new marketing angle, says The Miami Herald. That means you can say goodbye to their robe-wearing bearded mascot the King—he's going on an "extended vacation." [sheds invisible tear]
What changes are in store? GLG Research summarizes them in bulleted list form. "Marketing to a young, male consumer," wacky commercials, and earth tones are out, while "offering something for everyone, especially females," Asian chicken salad, and commercials showcasing food are in. As for how to appeal more to females, Esquire's blog Eat Like a Man has some suggestions (make better coffee, offering healthier food for kids, have better restrooms).
Whoppers aren't going anywhere, of course. New items being tested around the country, many similar to those at McDonald's, are fruit smoothies, low-fat vanilla yogurt parfait, oatmeal, vanilla soft serve sundaes, and a premium burger topped with thick-cut bacon on a brioche bun.
