Dear AHT: Reader Recommendations

Here are some reader recommendations we received in the AHT inbox over the past few months. Unfortunately, we can't review every good burger in country—too much area, not enough stomachs—but we'll try to cover as much as we can. Send your recs to burger@seriouseats.com. And if you ever want to submit a review, here's how. Thanks for sharing your burger knowledge!

You guys must absolutely get to College Park, MD, to review the Hellenic Burger at Plato's Diner. College Park is a small college town (who would have thought with a name like that?) where University of Maryland is located. There isn't all too much in the terms of food on the main strip, except for the shining star that is Plato's Diner.

The Hellenic Burger is the burger that I eat every time due to the wonderful texture of the ciabatta bread, and the creamy contrast of the mozzarella and feta cheese.

Please review this burger to give it the proper commendation it deserves!

Florida

We live in South Florida and visit the Florida Renaissance Fair every year. The food, as you would expect, has been nothing short of fail. This year was quite different though. There was a new vendor booth, Friar Tuck's, who served made to order burgers, sandwiches (sammiches), and tater tots. They serve a smashed burger on a toasted bun that is so good that I had two my first day. My husband got the Meatball burger which was so tasty, he came back the next day and had another.

They don't have a location yet, but they said they were working on getting a vendor truck or a permanent location. if you have it within your means, I would suggest contacting them and seeing where they'll be. You won't be disappointed.

There is a really awesome burger dive bar on Anna Maria Island, FL, called Skinny's Place. The menu is basic, the burgers are fresh ground, griddle cooked, awesomeness! The draft beer is the coldest on the island. They also serve soda out of the old-school mini glass bottles. They have a rival on the island called Duffy's, but Skinny's burgers are way better!

Brooklyn, NYC

I know it seems like an unlikely spot for a killer burger, but the happy hour cheeseburger at Roberta's in Bushwick is awesome and worth checking out.

I think BUCU Burger Bar and Bakery warrants a review. I read that they La Frieda beef. As such, the quality of the meat was excellent. The burger had a nice crust, however it was a bit overcooked inside. This may not be a chronic issue, as my father's burger was cooked perfectly, juicy and pink. Despite the fact that my burger was overcooked, it still had a good taste.

I got my burger with lettuce, tomato, and pickle. These ingredients seemed comparatively fresh as opposed to other burger places. They had a nice, strong taste but did not overpower the beef.

For the potatoes, we ordered french fries and potato chips. The fries were good, crispy with good 'potato' on the inside, but the chips were excellent.

Overall, I would recommend BUCU, with the caveat of ensuring that the beef is cooking properly next time. I will definitely be heading back.

Nashville, TN

If you're ever hungry in Nashville, you have to grab a Gabby's burger at Gabby's Burgers and Fries! My favorite burger in Nashville and second favorite of all time, and as a hungry college guy I've had them all!

Novato, CA

Weezy's Grass Fed Shed in Novato make super yummy sliders and fries. I dream about the B-Rad. Sometimes a person just wants a little bit of burger, and not the whole quarter pound commitment.

I would like to suggest visiting Harmon's Lunch in Falmouth, Maine. I think you would enjoy the style of burger they are producing there. I had lunch there today and took a few notes at fromaway.com.
