I have to admit—I'm not a big hamburger eater. I don't eat a lot of red meat, in general, and hamburgers I have tried in the past are too often a disappointment. However, I just returned from a trip to Denmark during which I had the most ridiculously tasty burger (and fries) I have ever had. We got the recommendation from the Lonely Planet Denmark guide; otherwise we most certainly would have passed this place up as it looks like a run-of-the-mill fast food place.
The place is called Karl's Sandwich Bar, and it's located in Arhus in Central Jutland. The best part was probably the bun. The bread was really exquisite—crunchy on the outside with crisp edges but soft when you bite into it. The meat was juicy and flavorful, toppings were fresh, and, the whole burger was HUGE. If I had to guess, I'd say it was between 7 and 10 inches in diameter. The fries that came with it were equally amazing. Like the bread, they were crisp, crunchy, and airy on the outside and perfectly soft and molten on the inside. I don't know how they do it.
Anyway, my photos of this place did not come out, so I can only describe it using words. However, if there's anyone there who is in Denmark or is going there and could profile this burger, that would be great! This burger deserves it.
