While Fatty Melt-esque "grilled cheese sandwiches for buns" burgers aren't terribly uncommon in independent restaurants, I hadn't heard of them being served in chain restaurants until seeing Friendly's new menu items, which includes the Grilled Cheese Burgermelt topped with with lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

I must admit, I have a soft spot for Friendly's because as a kid I ate many of their Cone Head sundaes and bowls of New England Clam Chowder while coloring in the paper placemats with whatever nubby crayons were on the table. If I lived near a Friendly's now I'd check out the new burger for "research purposes." ...And to get a Cone Head sundae. [via dhorst]
