It's a misconception to think Seattleites go nuts for just coffee—the mention of a Red Mill Burgers will make locals tremble in burger envy. It's really that good.
Red Mill Burgers has had a long history in Seattle since 1937, and they have remained a burger mainstay and frequent Best-Of list-topper in magazines because of their devotion to the classic hamburger. Their savory toppings of caramelized onion jam, roasted peppers, a variety of bacon combinations, or creamy Bleu cheese are delightful, but their basic Red Mill Burger, with the classic poppyseed bun, light use of lettuce and tomato, and the juicy, broiled, quarter-pound fresh beef patty are the simple flavors that showcase how much respect Red Mill has for an American classic. This isn't some frozen burger thrown on a grill and served up after sitting beneath a heatlamp. The meals are made fresh to order, and per their entertaining handwritten sign near the cash register, quality burgers take time, so be patient and you will be rewarded!
The Babe's Onion Rings are especially enjoyable, as the batter they use for the onion rings is made with cornmeal, which adds a distinctive sweetness and hearty crunch to every bite. The combination of these thick-cut, crispy onion rings paired with the Classic Red Mill Burger is a guilty-pleasure indulgence of comfort food deliciousness. A satisfying crunch of the sweet battered onion ring, combined with the savory richness of the juicy burger, and one is truly captured by Red Mill's flame broiled siren song.
Along with burgers, Red Mill also offers a menu of flame broiled lemon-honey marinated chicken sandwiches, including a club-style burger, chili verde, and BBQ. They even have a small menu of veggie burgers, offering the best vegetable toppings like caramelized red onion and roasted Anaheim peppers. To wash all this hamburger delight down, Red Mill has a long menu of shakes and malt flavors, as well as fresh squeezed lemonade, to truly cap off this nostalgic food experience.—wasabiprime
