This Week's Poll Results

Here are the results to this week's poll: How Do You Like Onions on Your Burger?

Raw 44%
Grilled 19%
Sautéed 21%
Fried, unbattered 3%
Fried, battered 6%
Pickled 2%
Other 2%
No onions for me, please 7%

Raw is the winner by a long shot. I'd like raw onions more if they didn't always leave my mouth with an unpleasant aftertaste that lasts for hours.

Thanks for your participation! Stay tuned for next week's poll. (As always, I take poll suggestions.)

Must have grilled or sauteed onions-I personally think raw onions are too pungent on a burger!

If you rinse raw onions under cold water, it takes all the astringent flavor off of the onion, leaving you with that beautiful sweet and earthy flavor. Most places don't do this, which is why I believe a lot of people ask for the onions to be removed entirely. Give it a shot Robyn... you'll be glad you did.

If you add grilled, sauteed, and fried together you come out with 43% which almost ties the 44% of raw.

If you want raw onion on your hamburger the best part of the onion to use is one nice big meaty slice from the center. Just one big slice like that on a burger does it for me

The center slice is juicier and more mild. Use the rest of the onion for other purposes

RichF above is right.

The term "grilled onions" doesn't really mean grilled, it just means sauteed basically. So, grilled and sauteed should be combined...

@Brian: Thanks for the tip! I don't think I've ever been to a burger place that did that. :( Same with salads that have raw onions; those equals DOOM.

@film_score: I think grilled onions does sometimes mean grilled...judging from the grilled onions I've eaten on burgers. :P Anyhoo, I prefer grilled over sauteed. But yeah, if you combine them that's almost as high of a percentage as raw.
