Reality Check: Burger King's Double Cheeseburger

Note: In our Reality Check series, we take a look at fast food in the news and show you what it looks like in all its unstylized glory.

Burger King's double cheeseburger has been in the news recently because of Burger King's ad campaign pitting its double cheeseburger against the one from McDonald's, and for its $1 promotion in select cities. I happened upon the above advertisement while in Chicago, but when I bought it in New York City, it was at the nondiscounted price of $2.89.

So, after the jump, here it is:

Mm...squished. The double cheeseburger is topped with pickles, ketchup, mustard, and two slices of cheese, and comes on a sesame seed bun.

To refresh your memories, here's a look at McDonald's double cheeseburger I reviewed last December:

Man have I come to and seen this sight a few times in my life. Usually after a couple too many IPA's or Bong Hits.

As much as I loathe to eat it now, fast food always seem to call my name out in it's seductive siren song. Every now and then I give in.

And then my stomach reminds me why it's always better to get a burger from better ingredients.

Great photos,

BWM

sheesh. they're both awful. wtf? I don't think it's even ground beef they're using. some kind of processed beef product perhaps? yuck.

If you MUST hit a BK when a White Castle or Krystal is not available at the times mentioned by BWM, you should go for the Whopper Jr., no ketchup--$1.00 locally in SoFL. For some reason, BK ketchup seems off. Mostly it is lettuce, tomato, and onion and sesame bun. The "burger" is not really a huge factor, but in the state you are in, when nothing else is open, it will do. Another plus is that when you ask for it without ketchup, they make you a fresh one, so it has not been sitting in the warmer for a couple of hours. To repeat a phrase I picked up somewhere many years ago,
"it ain't love, but it ain't bad."

Sure, its not anywhere close to some of the great burgers made in the U.S., but for $1.00 the BK double cheeseburger is great for the price.

I love McDonald's Double Cheeseburgers as a cheap snack. It is the best thing McDonald's has. It has onions. BK's doesn't. BK does have flame broiled taste. No one is going to go gaga like a burger snob over the meat but they are tasty for what they are.

bk's flame broiled taste will stay w/ you the rest of the day burping it up.
no thanks. their burger shot sliders are okay and will do in a pinch.

I like these reality checks -- keep'em coming.

I hate some of the burger snobs on here!

It's a f**king dollar--wtf do you think you are going to get? Kobe beef??

BK has the better tasting double cheeseburger and will do if your funds are really low! Shame on you if you think you are too good to eat a $1 hamburger!

Preach on jlew911

However, you are going to be in big trouble if you eat at burger king, don't like mustard on your burger, or get a burger cooked anyway other than rare.

I've got a knee available for any of your foreheads I see bitching about the quality of a $1 burger..

Excellent pics Robyn. nom.

Although I know the burger is fine for $1 (granted, I paid more like $3), I'd rather spend that dollar on...something else. Ha ha. But I have the option in NYC to get, say, 4 fried pork dumplings for a dollar. And how delicious they are. If Burger King were my only option, then...eh...

@jkdrummer: Shall do! At least with whatever fast food chains we have access to.

@Prairie: Thanks! WE MUST DOCUMENT...FAST FOOD.
