The Big Carl, Now Available at Carl's Jr.

CKE Restaurants

Today Carl's Jr. releases the Big Carl, their answer to McDonald's Big Mac as a larger and less expensive alternative. The new burger costs $2.49 and is made with two charbroiled beef patties (seven ounces total), "classic sauce," two slices of American cheese, and lettuce on a toasted sesame seed bun. You can view ads comparing the two burgers to one another at Carl's Jr.'s YouTube page.

Wall Street Journal has more on the "burger war" between Carl's Jr./Hardee's and McDonald's, in relation to McDonald's copying Carl's Jr./Hardee's Angus burger offerings.

I thought McD's and Carl's were copying Jack with the angus burger?

Yummy! This looks GREAT! Maybe they should do a triple BIG CARL !

I'm not going to pretend that Big Macs are fancy fabulous cuisine or anything, but something about their combination of flavors really works for me. Just enough sauce, not too much lettuce, and not overpowering cheese.

I was excited to try the Carl's version (because at Carl's I can get fried zucchini instead of fries). Sooo disappointed. Too much burger, not enough sauce, and the cheese is so.....strong I guess is the word for it. It comes nowhere close to a Big Mac.

Nice try, Carl's/Hardee's. But your burger tastes like fail.
