While the Billy Goat is a Chicago institution, I wouldn't call its burgers sensational.
To be fair though, sometimes you just want a little greasy pill to swallow. The local bowling alley in Chicago (South Suburbs) did a fantastic burger, probably frozen, definitely fatty, with American cheese and pickles and nothing else. I wouldn't serve it to royalty but it was delicious. Perfect for where it was, and it cost about $2.50. Griddle-fried with lacy edges, well-melted cheese, and a soft plain bun. Add some over-cooked fries, and you've got a meal made of nostalgia.
Thanks for compiling this list, Robyn. Nice to be able to see it all in one shot. I'm surprised at how many we've got intel on—and how many we still need to fill in!
I'm going to echo Dlevine1781 and ChiefHDB here. This list is weird. And it almost seems random and more like "82 Burgers We Have Burger Porny Photos of in Our Archives," since shit like Better Burger made it on. SRSLY?
I will respectfully disagree with ChiefHDB on Zaitzeff, though. Come on! How can you not like that burger?!? Did you do the East Village one or the FiDi?
@Adam: Yeah I agree; it's a random list. And 82 is...er, excessive. But at least it reminds me to go back to Ruby's and Westville for their burgers. And I haven't been to Zaitzeff yet!

How does JG Melon not make the cut in NYC? Even Carnegie Johns and La Cense Burger Truck are listed. I've got no respect for these rankings.

The very first slide in the Chicago feature is the Billy Goat, and it says their patties are 8 ounces. That's absolutely untrue.
But unlike NotAmerican above, I do think Billy Goat's burgers are sensational.

I noticed the jg melon omission too...weak sauce. Zaitseff may have been one of the worst burgers I ever ate!

JG Melon's must have been an accidental omission
