Mexico Protests Burger King's Texican Whopper Ads

20090414-texicanwhopper.jpg

Update (4/15): Burger King is pulling the offensive ads: "The revised campaign will focus solely on the Texican Whopper sandwich and will not feature any characters or the use of the Mexican flag."

Burger King has sparked more controversy with their latest ad campaign for the Texican Whopper—a Whopper topped with taco-coated chilli con carne, jalapeños, and Cajun mayonnaise—being sold in Europe. Mexico is protesting the ads due to its stereotypical portrayal of Mexicans and offensive use of the Mexican flag, mostly in the printed ad. The commercial shows a tall America cowboy becoming roommates with a short Mexican wrestler wearing a cape resembling a Mexican flag. Mexico's ambassador to Spain has written a letter to Burger King's offices in Spain asking the ads to be removed. Watch the video after the jump.

Am I seeing this right? There's a fried patty of chili on this thing? Wow.
