Gourmet Burgers at The Burger Stand in Lawrence, Kansas

20090227-burgerstand.jpgChef Robert Krause is known for serving fine dining prix-fixe meals out of his specially renovated home, but his most recent business is a bit more downscale: The Burger Stand at Dempsey's Pub. LJWorld.com features the new gourmet burger joint opened by Krause and his partner, fellow chef Simon Bates. Kobe beef burgers are available in addition to classic burgers, and toppings includes apple chutney, shallot-bacon marmalade, and tzatziki sauce. 623 Vermont Street, Lawrence KS 66044 (map); 785-856-5460

I live just outside of Lawrence, KS in the Kansas City Metro area. There is one restaurant, until now, that I have held in the highest regard for having the most delicious burger out there. I have traveled all over the world and generally get hamburgers when I can because as a food medium, they have a lot to offer. The Burger Stand blows them all out of the water. I mean, Kansas City is known for steak and barbecue and anything and everything meat, so saying that this is the best is no small assignment. If you are ever in the Kansas City area or in Lawrence, for that matter, go get yourself a Burger Stand burger. It will not disappoint.

The Burger Stand is the real deal. I live in Lawrence and have eaten there 5 to 10 times. I just told my wife during our recent visit that I had experienced my favorite burger. Yes, of all time! The Romesco. There are some staples on the menu, but from what I hear, The Romesco may not be around forever. Another thing: this place is hopping during mealtime. From what I can tell, Lawrence loves it, and it's one of those places that has become the talk of the town. The staff is friendly, and chef Simon knows where it's at. Try some sweet potato fries on the side. Delish!!
