From this AFP article about eating less meat to have a lower carbon footprint: "When it comes to global warming, hamburgers are the Hummers of food, scientists say." Not that you thought eating burgers was good for the environment in the first place. [Tip o' the hat to: Peter S.]
The people that are worried about global warming happen to be vegans by and large. Now they want to take my hamburger! I'm so sick of Gore and all of his supporters.
They'll get my burger, out of my cold dead hand!!!!!!!
Burgers are the hummers of food, sure, but harder to resist than a Hummer, IMHO. Beefalo is a decent substitute but the same problem, I fear. Ostrich burgers?
They're not saying 'Don't eat meat', they're saying 'Maybe we should eat meat in moderation, like we used to'.
Nobody's going to have their burger taken away from them, okay? But do you need meat every day? I love a good burger, but I don't need it for three meals a day. And a bit of salad wouldn't kill you, would it?
I get very tired of the anti-vegetarian meme online. 'Oh, I could eat a whole cow! I want meat cereal in the morning! Put more meat on my ice cream, which is also made of meat!' Okay, we get it, you're a very manly man who does manly things like eat meat. Most vegetarians I know don't give a damn that you want meat. They do think you want a lot of attention.
I'm had two delicious homemade sliders today made from organic beef. I grow organic vegetables. But no way do I fall for this global warming fear and paranoia. I have read both sides of the argument and that's where I come down on it
@gaffer--read the science. Global warming is no longer a 'debate' in the scientific community, nor has it been for many, many years. Meat consumption does exponentially increase one's carbon footprint. Like NotAmerican said, it's not like 'they're coming to take the meat away,' but instead of assuming the way people in the developed world for only the past 50 years have been eating meat is 'more natural,' people who eat meat have to return to the ways they ate meat long ago--as a condiment for some meals, in small portions, less frequently, and in a more ethically-raised manner.
Heart of Glass.....
Global warming is hardly settled science. The last ten years have been cooling ones. James Hansen (Al Gore's guru) was way off and perhaps guilty of intentional fraud when he claimed the 10 hottest years of the last 100 have occurred recently. He had to retract because many of those 10 hottest are actually during the Great Depression (1934 in particular) and are in fact well distributed within the last 100 years
C'mon Gaffer:
In a grim and powerful assessment of the future of the planet, the leading international network of climate scientists has concluded for the first time that global warming is “unequivocal” and that human activity is the main driver, “very likely” causing most of the rise in temperatures since 1950." http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/03/science/earth/03climate.html
"Belief" in Global Warming is not unequivocal thankfully. The world as you know it will not be ending anytime soon. It is ginned up fear and paranoia. Polar bear populations are increasing. Lets say you live in NYC where Hamburger Today HQ are......
There was a large meeting of scientists there last year. I'll bet you never heard it because the mass media refused to cover it.
Okay gaffer, this isn't a political site, so I won't clutter this up with debate. Please note that I quoted the Times, however, not right-wing website.
Global warming? Paranoia? Fear and loathing and Al Gore...to think that the king of foods, the hamburger, brought us to our demise and led to the downfall of all mankind...I'll have another please...with bacon and cheese thank you.

I read that headline a little differently and thought:
"Damn right! That's why I love 'em!"
But that just says something about me, I guess.

Yes, both are great to enjoy in a fancy setting, or just gobbled down quickly in the front seat.
