Guy Fieri Eats The Hunch And I Can't Stop Thinking of Colin Farrell

20090213-guyfieri.jpg

So it happened a couple of weeks ago, but Food Network host Guy Fieri paid a visit to David Letterman and demonstrated how one eats a three-pound hamburger. The burger itself comes from a place called Hillbilly Hot Dogs, who have a couple of ridiculously big burgers on their menu. Fieri tackles one he calls "The Hunch" due to the way he has to hunch over while eating it.

The proper name of the burger is the Hillbilly Single Wide, which weighs in at five pounds, including condiments and bun. They also have a Double Wide, which is 10 pounds of broken dreams and regret. I spoke to the owners, Sonny and Sharie Knight, and they told me that the Double Wide will feed 35 people. Despite the party-sized portion, the meat that makes these multi-pound patties is all fresh and hand formed. They have to cook for 45 minutes and demand a pizza peel for flipping. Lest you think these are just for show on the menu, Sharie said they can sell as many as five Single Wides a day and always have buns on hand for the double.

As for Fieri, I can't seem to make up my mind about him. His dyed hair and hot rod-chic style should be all I need to know to dismiss him, but I can't seem to. Perhaps it's his winning smile or commitment to the kinds of places I love (one of his Food Network shows is called Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives), but I don't think that's what it is.

Fieri and Farrell

I think I've figured it out. He looks like Colin Farrell...but fatter. Farrell is the kind of foul-mouthed, good-timer that makes you think he'd be fun to have a beer with (before he went dry). The thing is, he's just too damn good looking. I'd be afraid to let him get anywhere near my girlfriend. Fieri, however, has just the right amount of bad style and extra weight to make for intimidation-free good times. So there it is: Guy Fieri looks like a Fat Colin Farrell. I'm starting the meme.

You know I love burgers but,......not a fan of "meatloaf" on bun. Unforutnately you being to have issues with burgers that size keeping shape without falling apart, hence the need to add a binders like eggs, breadcrumbs, ect,...MEATLOAF! lol

I'll pass,...

Damon, I loved this read!!! Nice to see you posted again today.

Guy Fieri is almost the perfect example of what's wrong with FoodTV. (The perfect example is that chick who pours canned fruit over frozen pound cake, then tops it with CoolWhip.) FoodTV used to have people who cooked, demonstrating useful techniques and creative things to do with ingredients. Sometimes they went places, but the places they went were interesting places. Now almost nobody cooks, and they go to places like Applebees. Who is Guy Fieri, anyway? Has anyone ever eaten in one of his restaurants? Has anyone ever eaten anything he has prepared? His shtick is lame, man. Emeril was annoying, but I'm sorry about every bad thing I ever said about him-- he knew what he was doing and he respected his audience.

I love Diners...Dives, and I've liked Guy all along. But, he's starting to seem a little douchey lately.

If Guy Fieri wore clothes from A&F he would 100% douche bag. As it is he's only 98%. Go back to the mall.

35 people, 1 patty?! W - H - O - A. Feed that to Farrell before giving him a bottle of Sun-In and BAM! Fieri!

"...looks like Colin Farrell.."

are you freakin' out of your mind? Guy Fieri could lose 60 lbs and wouldn't look anything like Colin Farrell. in his dreams. come on, now...

I love the show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives....don't get me wrong. I think Guy Fieri is a complete douchebag though. Don't be afraid to not like this person or other "food celebrities" on the Foodnetwork that have weak culinary backgrounds and garbage palates.....have you seen this guy cook or the menus at his resturants? Garbage...like Ruby Tuesdays, Olive Garden, and TGI Fridays all rolled into one. My worst nightmare.

Guy and that fat idiot from Man vs. Food Adam Richman should be greased up, stuffed into a barrel together, and sent over the Niagra Falls never to be seen on TV again.

i hate tgifridays and the lots just as much as most people that frequent serious eats. and guy fieri is eh. but hillbilly hot dogs is fabulous. and a local whole in the wall...not some monster chain restaurant. it, along with the other dozen or so hot dog restaurants in the greater huntington, wv area are gems and are one of the few reasons i go to my hometown at all.

man, typos. eek. "the lot" and hole in the wall. sorry!
