What I Got for Christmas

20090102-xmascard.jpg

I visited the girlfriend's family in San Francisco for Christmas this year. Her little sister gave me one of the most well-thought-out, awesome, yet maddeningly frustrating gifts of 2008: an In-N-Out gift card.

Why frustrating? Because I received it on Christmas Day (when it's closed) and had to be at the airport by 10:30 a.m. the next day (In-N-Out opens at 10:30 a.m.).

So I suppose I'll have to save it for next time I visit. (But I'm keeping it in my wallet as a good luck charm until then.) Thanks, gf's lil' sis!

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

That sounds like something my family would do to torture me. Living in Texas, I only get to have In-N-Out once a year when we visit family in California, and I eat as much as possible while we're out there. Hang in there...you'll be using that card soon...

Adam: this should teach you to make it a tradition to get an in-n-out burger as soon as you land and eat it on the way to wherever you're staying. That's what we do every time we fly into SF.

Sounds like the little girl wanted you to say: "Aww, I can't use this--why don't you take it?"

As a fellow NYC resident and lover of In-n-Out how will you cope knowing that fantastic gift is sitting your back pocket unable to be used???? The torture!!!!

She is evil incarnate and must be stopped. As another NYC In-n-Out lover, I sympathize. I have no idea when my next fix will be! I know that you fly out west a lot more often than I do, but check the expiration on that gift card with their office!

@bronxbrinergal: I wouldn't necessarily call her evil incarnate. It was a thoughtful gift, which I hope I expressed above.

GF's Lil' Sis: If you're reading this, please disregard the rude commenter above. I love the gift card.

@sorry Adam--none of us wanted to get you in trouble with the GF!

I'll buy it for $4.99?

@HeartofGlass: No harm done.

@bronxbrinergal: Now it's me who has been rude. I woke up from a nap, was still feeling drowsy and irritable, and saw the comments here. I know you were making a joke. (I just don't want GF's Lil Sis to misinterpret anything going on here -- you know the internet. Sometimes it's difficult to register jokes, etc.) I'm sorry for saying your comment was rude.

@zindh: No way. I'm keeping the card. It's for next time I go out there.

@ Adam and Little Sis and Girlfriend:

Yes, it was a joke. I'm sorry for suggesting that the gift giver is anything less than sincere! However, if someone got me one of those gift cards, (or one for Chik-fil-a).... I'd be so very, very depressed. ;-)
