In Videos: Barack Obama Orders a Burger on Air Force One

20090120-video-obamaburger.jpg

From National Geographic's upcoming TV series, On Board Air Force One, comes this clip of President Barack Obama (though president-elect at the time) ordering a burger before taking his first flight on the presidential plane. His order? Medium-well burger with cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, lettuce, and tomato—with a side of fries. I wonder how that medium-well burger came out.

On Board Air Force One premiers this Sunday, January 25, at 8 p.m. ET. Check your local listings for channels. Watch the video after the jump.

Medium well? Seriously?

I thought Obama was all about judgment and intelligence. Here, he shows that he has neither.

We're in for a long 4 years.

(tongue planted FIRMLY in cheek)

Leader of the free world digs burgers and fries! Big sigh of relief!

Jk

Medium-well? Hmmmph. Well, I guess you can't ask for everything. Us rare and medium-rare burger-lovers will just have to reach across the aisle on this one.

Loweet something’s in life are obvious,....Enjoying a succulent, juicy, medium well burger isnt a crime,...

How about a show of gratitude that he appears to be a regular kinda guy as JK said, at least he enjoys eating burgers and fries!

Nice way to jump to conclusions so early in the "inaugural" day!

I also noticed a critical, strange part of the report: Dijon mustard, and only mustard, not ketchup. A very odd condiment selection!

And cheddar rather than American and lettuce and tomato might offend some burger purists.

Clearly a man who marches to his own hamburger drummer!

HOG - I think I like the sound of that banging drum! ;-)

Damn... I'd love to be able to go at least one site today without hearing about Obama. Is that too much to ask?

I hope his choice of medium-well and cheddar are not a foreshadowing of mediocre judgment for the next 4 years.

Maybe he was just being cautious. In Bushworld the vendor was probably not trustworthy so the meat may have been mainly retired circus animals.

A piece of advice Kirk,...if you close your eyes and plug your ears really tight you then might not hear and or see anything. Albeit thats they type of government we've endured for the past 8 years, but hey whatever works for you.

btw, medium well with cheddar is quite taste indeed!

cheers to medium well burgers for the next 8 years.

@Lvn4life - This is a food blog. I don't come here to discuss politics. It's a happy little refuge for me. Kindly keep your snarky little comments to yourself.

Hey, HeartofGlass, he's a Chicago guy. Mustard, no ketchup, on your dogs, mustard, no ketchup, on your burger.

@Dave It's amazing what I've learned about condiments on SE--when I did eat McDonald's no kidding, in NJ EVERYONE ordered Quarter Pounders (which came with ketchup and mustard). I thought that was all you could put on burgers, and even thought 'hey, does anyone order a Big Mac--what's up with mayo on burgers.' Then I discovered that mayo was the norm for many areas on all burgers--or plain, or just ketchup and no mustard. And now mustard only in Chicago.

Well, of course mustard no ketchup in the NE too--but I though Chicago people put salads on their hot dogs ;)

I've been only a visitor to Chicago, but I'm pretty sure that when you want everything on your hot dog, "drag it through the garden" is the right thing to say. :-)

If Pres. Obama views food as an afterthought....and in fact he may view food as mere sustanence to keep him going while he tries to figure out how to get us out of this mess....heck we know he likes Rick Bayless, he has a palate...anyway, its fine with me....

"snarky"?? lol Thanks for bringing up the Obama reference in your inital blog Kirk! lol

Enjoy!

Medium -Well...yikes! At least he ordered a burger. He probably had plenty of choices. Someone has to sneak some Gulden's onto that plane though...

Excellent video. Makes me like the guy even more. Always professional, confident and credible but isn't so pretensious that he couldn't dare request a burger and fries.
