Yesterday Burger King released the Angry Whopper in the US, a version of the Whopper topped with spicy crispy onions, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, and spicy Angry Sauce. Visit the burger's official site Angry-Gram to send the subject of your anger a personalized message screamed forth from an animated Angry Whopper.
Although the marketing campaign behind the Angry Whopper gives the impression that eating it will result in your tongue being burned off, Marvo of product review blog (and AHT favorite) The Impulsive Buy says, "The only anger I get from the Angry Whopper is the anger I feel for it not being spicy enough." On a angry scale of one to ten, he gives it a paltry three. Despite the lack of its namesake spiciness though, Marvo still says its tasty and recommends trying it.
The Angry Whopper will be available until March 30, 2009 for $3.69. Double and triple patty versions are also available. The Angry Whopper is also sold in Europe, Canada, and Australia. [via Snackosaurus Rex]
No I really really liked this burger. I tried this last week (Canada) and it was dammn good. I also liked the Loaded Steakhouse Burger. *thumbs up* here!
That doesn't really look like a real burger. It looks like the toppings were photoshopped together. Maybe that's what they do for all the burgers on posters and menus - which would explain why the real thing never looks like the photo ;-)
It was alright. Nothing crispy about the onions, and not very spicy - oh except for the somewhat spicy bit I got from the TWO jalapeno pieces I had on mine.
This has been a huge hit in Sweden (was on the meny some time ago) and I got the opportunity to talk to one of the Product Developers from BK, he told me that this is the first burger to "go the other way" = first be introduced in the EMEA's and then go to the North American markets. But. as a twist - he got the idea from a swanky restaurant in NYC("davidburke & donnatella"?) who had a "angry lobster" on the menu - a lobster with jalapeños amongst other ingredients - and that triggered the angry whopper idea.
Still, it's a good burger, but I wouldn't call it angry, more "mildly annoyed".
I wish BK would spend a little more time on food quality and customer service, and less time on the creepy "King" and bizzare marketing (The "Whopper Virgins" commercials weren't bad, but we they didn't need to use other cultures to compare burgers, how about Americans comparing.).
A good Whopper can be really good, but I haven't had one in the last half dozen times I stopped at a BK over the years. I can't seem to get a freshly cooked patty. They're always cooking them to death and in advance and they'r dry as can be. I don't think I should have to ask for a "fresh" burger either. Unfortunately, I think BK has the worst customer service of any chain, and I'm talking about across the country. I'm sure there are some well run establishments somewhere, but I haven't found any.
I got one on a hung-over New Years Day in LA, only to find out when I got home, they forgot the bacon. It made me angry. Now I know why they call it the Angry Whopper
I saw "Angry Whopper" on a BK marquee sign last week, and though it was a marketing stunt. i had no idea an "Angry Whopper" was a real menu item. was funny.
Can you imagine the next generation of "angry" whoppers? some possibilities:
guilty whopper
intelligent whopper
nerdy whopper
sleeping whopper
obsessive compulsive whopper
Why anger? Seems like a negative thing to promote. I'll pass, the BKs around the DC metro area serve dried out crap, I'm sure they'd dessicate this thing too.

Fast food is never spicy enough. Take Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich - a favorite of mine, the flavor is good, but they ran ads showing men with sweat pulsing down their faces to promote the sandwich, hardly. I could throw on several drops of haberno to really spice it up, otherwise it is very mild, I think a baby could eat it. If you don't need anything to cleanse your palette from the burn while you are eating, water, soda, fries, etc, it is not hot! I could eat a Spicy Chicken without a single pause.

That photo looks seriously unappetizing to me.

I'd hit that -- w/o the onions!

They need to hire a better food stylist. That Angry Whopper looks like its made of styrofoam.

What I want to know is: is it Lewis Black doing the Angry Whopper's voice on the Angry-grams?
