I recently asked a friend to go out for burgers, but I didn't have a place in mind. Until now. When AHT's New York City burger fiend Nick Solares showed me this photo of a cheeseburger from Joe Junior, I knew where I'd be getting my next burger. I can taste the meat juices and crispy meat crust just by staring at the photo. I can almost touch it. Come to mama.167 Third Avenue, New York NY 10003 (at 16th Street; map); 212-473-5150
Read the review. Gave the third avenue location a shot, and it was totally lousy. Maybe a smidge better than your average diner, but go to Shack, Molly's, Veselka, hell even Blue 9.
Sorry you didn't enjoy the experience Zachary. Personally I would happily eat the Joe Jr burger even in the face of the other spots mentioned (all of which I think are great burgers) In fact Josh "Mr Cutlets" Ozersky recently divulged to me that on his Hamburger Alley walking tour that included all the spots you referenced Joe Jr was the surprise hit.
I do recommend anyone trying the burger at Joe Jr to make sure that they cook it without the "plancha." And please get it rare or medium rare for the best experience.
I've been eating there for years, and the burgers are fantastic. I feel smug everytime I eat one, when I think of how I'm getting a burger that's just as good if not better than the ones at Shake Shack at Madison Park, which people wait in line for and pay several dollars more for.
The burgers led me to try their other food and almost everything is good. The avocado and chicken salad plate. The broiled pork chops. Everything is good in a non-self conscious way. The places serves food. Good food. It's not serving up a pork chop or hamburger that advertises itself as a supreme example of itself, with all its attributes listed on the menu. Go go, Joe Jr.

Great burger for sure...just remember to request that they toast the bun for you.

If you don't want them to use the plancha, tell them "sin plancha, por favor"
(without the iron, please)

I like the way the cheese is defying gravity and melting upwards.

How sweet looking is that burger, looking so innocent and well-behaved?
