I think this hamburger dress, made by Joy Kampia in August 2005, must be making the meme-rounds on the internets lately. I've just had the third person in two days just ping me with it. But it's a good thing they did because, for some reason, we've never blogged this up to AHT. So here it is. As Kampia notes on her site, it's made with assorted fibers and nylon. (And, FYI, it's crocheted and sewn—not knitted.)
Yeah. I know. But it never had a post of its own that was easily found via search here. My main motivation for posting it here in its own entry was so that folks would (hopefully) search AHT, find this, and then not send this link in. This dress has been around since 2005, and every few months someone picks it up on some blog and it makes the rounds and then I get 10 emails about it.
Where would someone wear a dress like this? It's too dressy for the workplace but just not quite cocktail attire either :). The other textile works on the designer's website are rather interesting as well.
@runnereater: I don't think the point was to actually wear it as a real dress. I think the point was just to make it for its own sake. Art for art's sake, as they say.
I thought it was fun the first time I saw it way back when. I have grown a bit tired of it in the years since. But if it takes something this absurd to spread the word of the 'burg, I'm all for it, in theory.
@HerbyN: Like it or not, it's part of the burger zeitgeist, this dress. Which is why I get a great deal of email about it. When it comes down to it, I want AHT to be a "snapshot" of the burger world. This dress qualifies. For more serious down-and-dirty burgerage, Nick Solares just posted an awesome review of Cassell's in L.A.

This is amazing. And I hadn't seen it before so I'm psyched to see it!

Shark jump anyone?

@alastor: Don't you mean "fridge nuke"?

I suppose it's more appropriate. So what do you think Adam? Is this level of absurdity worth spreading the good word of the burg?

i agree with alastor's "shark jump" comment. this post was just plain silly.
can it really be that hard to find a balance between whimsy and something that is just outright ridiculous and not worthy of posting?
really.

Let us not forget that 'A Hamburger Today' is here to report the news, we're here to throw spoiled, maggot ridden 70/30 ground chuck at it.
