Dear AHT: How to Make Glazed Doughnut Bacon Egg Cheeseburgers

Editor's note: AHT reader Chris Zelenak channeled his inner Paula Deen by making his own glazed doughnut bacon egg cheeseburgers. Here's his description and recipe.

Dear AHT, Letters From Our ReadersMy boss had been talking for weeks about trying the Badaboomz doughnut burger, a glazed doughnut burger served at the Badaboomz chain. My curiosity piqued at the idea of a doughnut burger, I decided to bring in my skillet to work and cook up a few for lunch one day and see if his interest was purely academic, or if he'd really eat one of these things.

In my trying to find the technique of other people who've made these burgers, I came across your site; I think I erred more towards the Badaboomz / sliced-side-grilled method, as opposed to the ones as pictured in your story on Google burgers (they look pretty damn good, though). I diverged a bit from what I saw in the existing doughnut burgers with the inclusion of the fried egg (egg in a hat style), though, as well as some meat changes that candied up the burger itself.

I've done a bacon and fried egg topped burger. Have yet to reach the final step of using a glazed donut as a bun. Not sure how much it will really add. It's damn tasty already and the explodey yolk is fantastically rich.

I'm so terribly sorry; it doesn't appeaal to me. I would have instant heartburn, stomach cramps and I would be able to smell it in my skin for days...

...not necessarily a bad thing ahaha but I can't do doughnuts.
What other sweet-like pastries could you use for the bun that might be slightly lighter?

ps. sorry to use the "L" word on this blog :p

Honestly, I'll eat anything, but that makes me nauseous instantly. This is pushing it even for regular gluttons.

...Man, am I the only person who looks at this and automatically thinks, "Hell yeah, I'll totally eat it!"?

Part of me wants to make one of these and the other part wants to continue living with an artificial heart.

pass the angio-plasty, please?

I like to try things at least once, they couldn't be any worse than sauteed chicken hearts, right? right?

This grosses me out more than you know. It's not even about the health factor (I mean, anyone who would even consider this isn't thinking about health). Just the idea of glaze on my cheeseburger - UGH. The texture, the sweetness...hold on, I think I'm gonna barf!

that's just disgusting

The guy also puts half a cup of maple syrup, minced basil and Worcestershire sauce in his patties. In case you were wavering on this.

I see all these doughnut burgers, and I can't help but wonder... has anybody ever tried cooking a burger inside of a doughnut? It shouldn't be that hard, right?

You gotta deep fry the burger at the same time you deep fry the donut. Then pass them both under the glaze machine (is there a glaze machine). Game, set, match.

I think my ravenous doughnut craving just went away. LOL

Is that Kevin Youkilis in the last pic of the photo gallery??? 8^0

schwartz, that sounds like a variation on a scotch egg, you need a name for this now.

I'd like to swap out the beef for a hot pork sausage patty, then add sriracha...delicious.

After I first heard about these concoctions I made a version at home, but I think I missed something by not using a krispy kreme doughnut (had some bs store bought stuff I grabbed at work, hey it was still a doughnut) - I thought it was quite tasty.

Some so stole this from the Boondocks episode that came out in 2004.
