Best Burgers in London from 'Time Out,' and One They Missed

Time Out London reviewed 16 burger joints in the city on a scale of one to six. None scored a perfect six, but there are some fives in there for Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Haché, and Ground. You can download a 2-for-1 burger voucher from Time Out's website, good this month at participating restaurants.

The Independent's blog suggests another burger: the all-duck Duck Burger Classique at Croque Gascon. I wouldn't say a burger made of duck is comparable to regular beef-based burgers, but it sounds delicious.

I will be in UK next Friday, expect AHT's take on some of these places in the weeks ahead.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen is a joke. The buns are horrendous and the sauces are meaningless.

I agree about GBK.
Hache has always been pretty good, but it can be incredibly busy of a weekend especially as it's fairly small.

I should make a note about terminology over here...basically, anything served on a bun is a burger. So a 'chicken burger' is a cooked chicken breast on a bun, not minced or chopped chicken.

Please also understand how far we've come on the burger front. I remember 8 years ago McDonald's unveiled its 'Chicken and Mayo' burger...a chicken fillet with mayonnaise and shredded lettuce on a plain bun. And nothing else. We're still coming to terms with concepts of 'flavour' and 'interesting'.

Also, BSE scared the hell out of people, so most burgers are cooked to death. You'll also encounter the odd salad that people put on burgers (shredded lettuce, tomato wedges and cucumber in a mayo sauce, coupled with a bland tomato salsa and maybe a bit of bland barbeque sauce for good measure).
