Whoopie Pie Disguised as a Burger

20081009-whoopiepie.jpg

That's no burger—that's a whoopie pie disguised as a burger! Helen Rosner of ReadySteadyGo found these whoopie pies at Whole Foods. Not just any whoopie pie, but "a MINIATURE MAPLE-PUMPKIN WHOOPIE PIE that has been DECORATED TO LOOK LIKE A HAMBURGER." I totally want one—or five, considering that each one is only one and a half inches in diameter.

What the ... is it, like ... a modified whoopie cushion??

Ok, lessee here ... wikipedia: "A whoopie pie, sometimes alternatively called a gob, black-and-white, or bob is a baked good traditional to the Pennsylvania Dutch culture as well as New England, made of two small, chocolate, disk-shaped cakes with a sweet, creamy frosting sandwiched between them ... They can be purchased wrapped in plastic at Amish farmers' markets throughout Pennsylvania, Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio ... They can also be found in most convenience stores and supermarkets throughout New England, most commonly in the states of Maine and Massachusetts ..."

Well, no wonder I've never heard of a whoopie pie! Learn sumthin' new every day.

@LPC: If you have access to a Trader Joes, we tried whoopie pies from there recently and they were really good! I've also had meh whoopie pies before though.

I've seen burger-styled cookies on etsy. Whoopie pies, too, actually!

http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=10947154 (As someone who demanded to know if they could send whoopie pies to Arizona when the temps were still over 100, I can vouch for their business savvy as they politely recommended I wait until temps dropped 10 or 20 degrees)

If you need me, I'll be at etsy rehab.

My grandmother made me Whoopie Pies when I was a kid, and even as I grew older. I've tried some great ones in my time, and maybe i'm biased, but none of them compared to my grandmothers.

She made them just right, and the key to a great one, is for the "creamy frosting" not to be too sweet, and when you remove one from your fingers, there should be at least and 1/8 to a quarter inch of cake stuck to them.

If your not licking cake from your fingers, your not having a true Whoopie Pie experience.

That's too cute for words!

The Maple-Pumpkin whoopie pies from Whole Foods are my 2nd favorite food behind hamburgers. My head just exploded!
