Pringles Restaurant Cravers, Cheeseburger and Onion Blossom Flavors

20081006-pringles-cravers.jpg

I love my mom. When I visited home last week, one of the first things she did was retrieve two cans of Pringles Restaurant Cravers from the pantry. "Check these out," she said. "I thought you'd like these. You can write about them on your burger website."

I have no idea what "restaurant" they're referring to. A cheeseburger could come from one of thousands of restaurants worldwide (or your own kitchen)—though the "Onion Blossom" flavor is a nod, of course, to the trademarked Bloomin' Onion at Outback Steakhouse or the "onion blossoms" found at other fast-casual joints.

In the end, what can you really say about items in the food-flavored salty-snack category other than that they exist? The Cheeseburger flavor did and didn't taste like a cheeseburger, and the Onion Blossom chip tasted like a ranch-dressing-tinged sour cream and onion chip.

I liked that my mom picked the two to go together. Somehow this pairing made sense. (And, Mom, if you're reading this, I couldn't take those chips in my carry on, so they're back in the pantry; do with them what you will.)

Awesome. I want to find these. I usually trust the pringles guy even if he has no nose, and thus, theoretically no sense of taste or smell....

I wonder if I can find these in my area. I want to try! I missed out on the doritos "x-flavor" chips which apparently tasted just like a McDonald's cheeseburger.

@JudgeFudge: I haven't seen them back at home, but I haven't been in the chip aisle in the last few weeks. As I said, they're fun for novelty, but I don't know if I'd make them my go-to chip. In a way, it's smart of Pringles, Lay's, etc., to do these as limited edition. I could see them being fun for a party, where everyone could try them and then go back to more trad flavors. (For the most part, I'm a chip purist, though I do have a weakness for salt & vinegar chips (which are not that deviant, I guess) and jalepeño chips.)

@Sakura: I had some of the x-flavor Doritos, but I missed the cheeseburger flavor. Was there really?

Some weeks ago I went to Wal-Mart and spotted the onion and hamburger flavors, but as I recall there was also a cheese fry flavor. I picked out the onion and checked out thinking I'd get the others another time.

A few days later I went back, and they were missing from where I had seen them previously. In there place were the generic red and green familiar can flavors. I thought, "of course, this always happens."

Instead of leaving however I got on my hands and knees. Yes, my hands and knees in a crowded WalMart, and started digging through can after can. After some time I spotted it. There in the back was the can I sought, the hamburger flavor.

I haven't opened them just yet. But when I do I imagine they'll taste better then your experienc,e having picked up the sweet new ingredient of victory.

I saw them on the shelf at Wal-Mart grocery store in Houston. I think the sign said something about limited time.

I bought the Onion Blossom. I still have half a can left after over a month. Pringles has a shelf life at my house of about 36 hours.

I found them at Wal-mart also. The onion blossom totatlly tasted like the blooming onion!

I haven't seen these flavors but did have the opportunity to munch on a couple of the new (or new to me? I'm not very well-versed in chipdom) Screamin' Dill Pickle Pringles. They were very salty and did evoke some pickleness. It made me wonder how a couple might work on a Bobby Flay-type potato chip burger, although I don't think I could eat more than two or three of the pickle-flavored Pringles.

Your mom is a proto-blogger...she needs her own blog: Momslice.com.

I saw these not too long ago, but opted for the 'Layered Mexican Dip' and 'Cheese Fries' flavors. The Dip chips taste like a spicy guacamole chip while the cheese fries flavor wasn't as cheesy as I had hoped- the 'fried potato' flavor is nice and strong.

We tried these at work awhile back, along with a third flavor, Mozzarella Sticks w/Marinara. The Cheeseburger tasted like mustard and the Onion Blossom tasted like vinegar and horseradish (in a bad way); the Mozzarella Sticks were marginally tolerable. They were confusing, though, since they tasted sort of like marinara but were stark white in color.

Do not want.

You can take food in a carry-on; it's not liquid.

@Adam Kuban: yup I just confirmed with my brother who bought some when they were out, I guess they tasted just like a McDonald's hamburger (not cheeseburger). He said it was kind of weird actually how similar it was.

@Jayevee: I took the comment to mean he didn't have room to fit the pringles, not that there was some rule he was obeying.

It's weird how flavors taste different to people, my sister and I thought the X-flavor doritos tasted just like Burger King burgers!

I bought the Pringles Mexican Dip but am a bit scared to try them. I did try the Onion Blossom and tasted mostly mustard--don't think they're awful, but they're not a favorite.

My two favorite chips also happen to be salt and vinegar and jalapeno, both kettle style.

But I also give Pringles credit, I was intrigued enough to buy them!

Am I the only person in the free world who could not taste the pickle in the cheeseburger flavor Pringles? Everyone I know who tried them immediately exclaimed about the pickle flavor. No matter how many times I tried it, I didn't get "pickle" out of it.

What a Mom! Lucky son of a ummmm nice Mommy, you are. ;-D

I remember when I was at the Tokyo Narita Airport, they had Consomme and Soy Sauce flavored Pringles.

Nothing like the additional processing of an already processed food!
