Burger Recommendation: Stanley's in Rhode Island

20081017-stanleys.jpgAHT reader Brendan M. emailed us to recommend the burger from Stanley's in Rhode Island, with two locations in Central Falls (the original) and Providence (the newer location). It was voted for having the best burgers and fries in Rhode Island Monthly's 2007 Best of Rhode Island Reader's Picks, and was awarded five grease stains ("Outstanding") by cheap eats-loving Holly Moore of Holly Eats. There's a better photo of the burger on Flickr by user kaszeta, who describes the burger as, "a grease-fest [...] that was both juicy and crispy at the same time."

Has anyone else been to Stanley's? What do you think of it?

I've eaten at Stanley's (the locals refer to it as "Stanley burger") many times. The burgers consist of (I'm not fibbing here) one large tablespoon's worth of meat, flattened out on the griddle, and cooked through, again, I'm telling the truth. The burgers are placed on regular hamburger rolls, served with lots of sliced dills and fried onions. It's ok, but burger bliss it's not. The onion rings are passable.

If in Rhode Island, I would never go to Central Falls, it's a combat zone, again, not lying.

I kinda like Stanley's, but it's definitely not your normal burger, it's more of a slider, with a fairly minimalist amount of meat that's pressed into the grill. The result is crispy, but very, very greasy. And always get at least a double Stanleyburger.

A slider on a bun that is way too big for it. I used to go to the CF location as a student, basically because some of my friends liked it.. but I could take it or leave it.

I love RI, but the restaurants there that tend to get plaudits, do so because there's a connection behind the scenes, money changing hands. RI isn't referred to as the most politically incestuous state in the country for nothing.
