Joey Chestnut Wins Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship

20080929-joeychestnut.jpg

Congratulations to Joey Chestnut for winning this weekend's Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship by downing 93 Krystal hamburgers in eight minutes. Legendary rival Takeru Kobayashi only ate 84 hamburgers, putting him in third place, and second place went to Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti for eating 85 hamburgers. This is the second year in a row Chestnut has taken first place; last year he won by eating 103 hamburgers. For full results, read the Krystal Square Off Blog.

I don't know how anyone can eat so many of those burgers. I first saw a Krystal burger in July while visiting friends in TN. When I smelled my husband eating one, I felt queasy and almost retched. I couldn't eat the entire afternoon and night from seeing and smelling that grey rubbish. The sad thing is that grey is my favorite color. :\

Kobayashi looks totally pissed off in that photo.

He probably is pissed off. He was like the king of competitive eating. Now Chestnut seems to be beating him all the time.

I bet he's calculating how far he could run if he snatched the burger belt out of that guy's hand.

I used to live off those things towards the end of each semester in college, they were right across the street from the university library (U of F).

Mostly you are eating bread so they might as well have a contest to see who can eat the most loaves of bread, the meat and onions are an afterthought.

White Castle are truly better. That said, sliders aren't my favorite incarnation. I lean more towards the "six dollar" burger variety.

Off topic, but I'm wondering when Subway is going to have a "Footlong" eating competition. They haven't done it yet and what great marketing this is. Fo sho.
