Help Wanted: Los Angeles-based Burger Correspondent

20080909-lapostcard.jpgEarlier today Nick Solares dropped in with an L.A. burger roundup on A Hamburger Today. He travels there every now and then, but we'd like to get more L.A. coverage on the site.

So, do you live in Los Angeles? Interested in blogging for A Hamburger Today? We're looking for a burger-mad devil to document the rich burger scene in the City of Angels.

You should love, love, love burgers and know all the L.A. haunts—from the old standbys to the up-and-comers. From the tourist traps to hard-to-find hole-in-the-walls. And this is no small matter: You should also be able to write and edit well and have mad photo skills. This is an ongoing assignment that would pay per post. Details after the jump.

What We're Looking For

  • First and foremost: A true passion for burgers! We're not talking "Um, sure, I'm into food and could cover burgers." We're talking, "I FREAKING LIVE FOR BURGERS AND KNOW MY S***!" Your first thought upon waking up is Where am I getting my burger today?
  • Strong writing skills: Your sentences are tight, sharp, and zippy. They make us want to steal the burger off your plate. You can spell and punctuate. This would all be good. Very good
  • Great photography: Nick and Robyn set the bar pretty high here, but as long as your photos are in focus, are aesthetically pleasing, and make the food look good, you're probably in business
  • Basic photo editing skills: Resizing, file optimization, cropping, etc. (Goes hand in hand with above)
  • Bandwidth and commitment: Enough to commit to filing a weekly dispatch on a given day each week and meeting your deadline
  • Blog-savviness: A familiarity with blogging applications is preferred

What We Need from You

Please submit the following to burger@seriouseats.com

  • Your name
  • Your blogging skill set: How familiar are you with blogging applications and HTML?
  • The first five burger joints you want to hit up
  • Writing samples or links to pieces you've written
  • Photography examples
  • A link to your blog or website (if any)

Chars,
The Mgmt.

Gee, the fun requests for help are always somewhere ... else! ;-)

If only I weren't going on my honeymoon...

Why, why, WHY do you wait until I'm 2 weeks from leaving L.A. forever to post this? [cry] Alas, when you're ready for a correspondent from Nashville, look me up.

Hey! I don't technically live in the City of Lost Angels, but I'm a native Lost Angel living in the OC, which is damned close. And, really, to properly cover the so-called LA burger scene, you need to cover the SO CALIF burger scene, which would have to include the OC, and maybe even San Diego.

Furthermore...

I am a self-professed burger connoisseur. I mean, truly, to say I'm burger-obsessed would not be an understatement. I'm also a tough critic (some people have even accused me of being a burger snob... gasp!). Searching out and consuming burgers all over the planet is like a sport in my house. Seriously. Hubby and I have taken the World Burger Trials to new levels. I even managed to have burgers three times in less than two weeks during my recent trip to Bangkok. See?

On the other hand, I can't say whether my writing skills are up to the job. Punctuation, spelling, grammar? No problem. Tight, witty, drool-inducing prose? Not so sure. But I'm willing to give it a shot.

I do have one obstacle. I'm out of town at least ten weeks per year (oftentimes, more). But I think that can be managed. If you're interested, drop me a note!

How about someone in Seattle?

Unlike the other commenters I am a resident of the City of Angels and my mouth is at your service. I hope the spot isn't filled.
