Fifth Annual Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship

The official Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship may not be until September 28, but the qualifying competitions to see who can eat the most hamburgers in eight minutes are going on right now. Today's competition was held in Jacksonville, Florida, with five more to go before the main event in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Here are the main participants in this year's competition, along with their personal records:

  • Joey Chestnut: 103
  • Takeru Kobayashi: 97
  • Humble Bob Shoudt: 95
  • Pat Bertoletti: 94
  • Tim Janus: 74
  • Sonya Thomas: 62
  • Chip Simpson: 55

I'm crossing my fingers that I can be chosen as one of the five random bystanders to participate in Memphis. Of course, even giving myself a generous rate of 4/minute, I would certainly be uncompetitive. Oh well.
