Park Slope Five Guys to Open Friday, July 25

George "Hamburger America" Motz has the word: Five Guys in Park Slope opens Friday.

George ferreted out the info earlier this evening and has the post about it on his Hamburger America blog, where it looks like he's none too happy with the offerings in the 'hood.

The Park Slop Five Guys will open at 11 a.m., he says.

FYI... I stopped in there yesterday late afternoon and the guy overseeing the final setting up told me they were opening on Thursday. Not that he could have been mistaken or later pushed the opening back a day...

I have yet to try this place and there is one 10 minutes from me in Hackensack.

The last meal my father ever ate before his heart attack was at Five Guys. It was pretty much his favorite. His heart exploded but I like to think he went out with a smile on his face.

Whoa, is that true?

I just called to confirm. The gentleman on the other end of the phone line said Friday at 11 a.m.

If Mr. Motz isn't happy with those places, he should try the ones in the area that are actually known for having decent burgers (Dram Shop and Sidecar). Being vegetarian I haven't had either but friends of mine have enjoyed both.

Haven't been to Sidecar yet for the burger -- and I really need to get there; have heard it's good. But Dram Shop is meh. It looks beautiful and is assembled to perfection, but they refuse to cook to anything less than well done. What you end up getting is a very good, fresh, hybrid of Wendy's (square patty), BK (flame-grilled), and Mickey D's (Big Mac double bun).
