To celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, McDonald's is beefing up its menus around the world. The "China Menu" in Colombia and Argentina will offer the Beijing Burger—a patty topped with chop suey and ginger sauce on a bun speckled with black and white sesame seeds—along with fried "rice sticks" in lieu of fries, and caramel-and-banana sundae instead of the McFlurry.
Australia will feature five different burgers as a part of the "Flavor of the Games" promotion: The American, The Euro, The African, The Asian, and The Australian.
Unfortunately, Stateside folks won't get anything nearly as global—just Olympic athletes on the packaging for the Southern Style Chicken. Russia also gets the short end of the stick: ho-hum chicken and fish sandwiches and a shrimp salad as part of the "McFresh" line. Maybe we should just get Chinese takeout? [via Goodies First]
Man, where can i score me some of those fried rice sticks. I'm picturing deep fried wands of pork fried rice... a great addition to any chop suey burger.
Here in Prague we're getting the Beef Wong (a burger with Napa cabbage salad and a teriyaki-like sauce wrapped in stale, black sesame seed-dotted flatbread) and the Chicken Ming (a McChicken with curry sauce and cabbage salad). My husband said the chicken one wasn't bad, but the burger was terrible. Oh yeah, there's also fried shrimp. A highly representative Chinese menu, for sure. ;-)
This reminds me of an experience we had at a McDonald's in Taipei. My husband, after two weeks of chinese cuisine, wanted a hambuger despartely enough to stop at a McDonald's. Not wanting a full meal, I looked at the pictured selections and ordered what looked like a plain single burger. My husband unwrapped his prize to find a beef patty sandwiched between two bun sized molded rice patties. Apparently this was meant for those patrons who wanted an American-Chinese hambuger. And, it was seasoned to taste Chinese. My poor husband gave up and waited another week til we got back for his real hamburger!

I'm eager to see what will happen when I request a pair of chopsticks to eat my Beijing Burger with.

Wow. That's just....wow. I can't even say something snarky about it, b/c it's so wrong.

Sounds awful. Who would even want to try something like this???

I want to try the deep-fried "rice sticks" - it looks pretty heavily breaded, but it could be good.
