Despairing at the thought of shelling out five bucks for yet another bad bag of hamburger buns, Vanessa of What Geeks Eat had the brilliant idea to make her own. Humanity may now be one step closer to achieving the perfect burger.
I always wondered why I never saw people bake their own hamburger buns! I was starting to worry there was something about them that made it impossible. I guess people are just willing to fork out a buck for a bag of buns.
Now, if only someone out there would post a recipe for those New England hot dog buns--you know what I'm talking about?
Or try King Arthur, always pushing their New England hot dog bun pan in the catalog and says it comes with a recipe. Their doughnut pan comes with a few good recipes and the recipe pamphlets they sell have some good recipes as well.
I have been researching the best way to get super squishy buns, and apparently its something impossible to do without the use of improvers and emulsifiers. Also another important step is the use of sponge and dough technique. However without the use of good proofers and baking ovens the result would still not be optimal. I wonder what is the best source for improvers specifically formulated for hamburger buns ?

You want buns? I got your buns:
Bacon Buns
Whole Wheat Buns
And for a change of pace, these are great with burgers.
