McDonald's to Nintendo DS WiFi Users: Game Over

20080529nintentods.jpgAccording to DS Fanboy, Nintendo DS users will no longer be able to avail themselves of the free WiFi that McDonald's was formerly offering.

While you won't be able to get your free online game on under the Golden Arches, you can use Nintendo's handy hotspot finder to go wireless for free.

The problem with Nintendo's hotspot finder is that it doesn't say whether a location requires a web browser to sign in.

Why is that important? The Nintendo DS doesn't have a web browser!

Free hotspots at hotels, coffee shops and Jack in Box typically require web browser so that you can agree to their terms of service.

No web browser means no Wi-Fi fun at most free and paid public hotspots, including McDonald's.

There are two hardware add-ons for the DS to get around the web browser requirement. However, Nintendo discontinued just them before the McDonald's Wi-Fi agreement ended!

There's more discussion at DS Fanboy. I also invite you to visit the original article at Knowzy (which it just so happens I wrote!)
