Best Three Seconds: Watching a Jucy Lucy Ooze Cheese

A staple feature of the Minneapolis-born Jucy Lucy is the seven-ounce burger's molten core of cheesy ooze. As explained on AHT before, that's not extra-sharp cheddar inside a cooked meat patty but good ol' American cheese. As burger expert John T. Edge sagely put it, "Only those orange squares of vaguely plastic texture will achieve proper fluidity."
Watch the scalding-hot cheese gush out of one Jucy Lucy, recently gobbled down by our friend Grocery Eats. His was from Matt's Bar, the alleged home of J-Luce, though just across the street, the 5-8 Club also claims fatherhood but spells it "Juicy Lucy." Video after the jump. (Just three seconds, and you'll be hitting "replay," guaranteed.)

Sweet jesus. It looks like it's puking.
...I mean, I'd still eat it.

The screaming baby in the background was clearly too young for such graphic cheese goo.

Ah, one of the experiences I miss from Minneapolis. And I love my "fear the cheese" shirt I bought on my last visit.
The jucy lucy inhabits an odd little corner of my burger world. It's not really a direct competitor with most burgers, that oozing cheese kind of puts it in a world to itself.
You know you've been there a lot when the waitress recognizes you and decides that you *don't* need to be warned any more about the hot cheese.

I'm not sure if it looks good or disgusting?

I think the screaming baby is the perfect soundtrack for the ooze.

Definitely disgusting. It actually made me a little nauseated.
That said, I'd still eat the thing. Just don't want to watch videos of it.

As someone from Mpls, I can vouch that they're good.

As a Minneapolis native...don't forget about The Nook.

That's a double Jucy Lucy (aka 15 ounces of pure beef pleasure). It;s not on the menu but they'll make it for you if you ask.

The Jucy Lucy is awesome, but just a side note the 5-8 Club isn't across the street it's actually down the road a couple miles. I imagine there would be only one Jucy Lucy standing if it was across the street.
With Matt's, the 5-8 and the Nook the Twin Cities is definitely the home of the Jucy Lucy though!
