Zaitzeff East Village in Time Out New York
The weekly listings magazine examines the East Village spin-off of the Financial District's go-to burger spot:
The rest of the sleek chocolate-toned interior—wine bottles arranged neatly on horizontal racks, intricate floor tiling—is almost too pretty for what the restaurant hawks: big, succulent burgers served in quarter- or half-pound patties (choose from sirloin, kobe, veggie or turkey), tucked into chewy Portuguese muffins. We preferred the lean sirloin to the vaguely metallic-tasting Nebraska-raised “kobe,” and the suggested temperature (burgers emerge medium unless otherwise requested) was well suited to the juicy, grass-fed meat.

Unfortunately, I echo your sentiments . It's no representation of the food, however. It's really just location and marketing in my humble opinion. This is a family run business that really caters to its customers so lack of business is a shame. Hopefully the TONY article will help things out a bit.
If you get the burger, make sure you ask for your portugese bun to be toasted. This was a key mistake I made at Zaitzeff Financial District. Make sure you ask for your fries well done and if you like sweet potato fries, go for a mix, deliciously represented here.

I was very disappointed after visiting Zaitzeff (Ave B location) last Friday. The restaurant decor was cute, although a little chilly. Maybe because of the subway tiles covering the walls and floors. My main concern however, was with the food. The kobe beef burger was completely unseasoned! It was also soggy. My favorite thing about burgers is that crispy salty crust made from grilling it hot and fast, with gooey cheese everywhere. The Portuguese bun was also nothing to write home about, give me a potato bun anyday. Too expensive for what you get. I don’t think i’ll be back.
